Anya potato seed is desiree x pink fir apple cross - apparently bred by the Scottish Crop Research Institute for Sainsburys in 1995. Can be harvested as early as July from a planting in March.
It has a fine nutty taste with long smooth tubers that are not awkwardly branched - makes for easier storage. With a yellow skin and white flesh it was voted the best tasting salad variety in 2010 by Which Gardening.
In short, a salad potato with a nutty taste that is found to be very enjoyable and an early cropper to boot.
Waxy potatoes are firmer and hold their shape. Floury potatoes are softer and break up more easily. The potato varieties mentioned on this web site are suggestions only and there are many more available.
